ABSTRACT

Abstract@#Allergic diseases can occur in all systems of the body, covering the whole life cycle, from children to adults and to old age, can be lifelong onset and even fatal in severe cases. Children account for the largest proportion of the victims of allergic disease, Children s allergies start from scratch, ranging from mild to severe, from less to more, from single to multiple systems and systemic performance, so the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases in children is of great importance, which can not only prevent high risk allergic conditions from developing into allergic diseases, but also further block the process of allergy. At present, there is no consensus on the management system of allergic children in kindergartens and primary schools. The "Consensus on Allergy Management and Prevention in Kindergartens and Primary Schools", which includes the organizational structure, system construction and management of allergic children, provides evidence informed recommendations for the long term comprehensive management of allergic children in kindergartens and primary schools, and provides a basis for the establishment of the prevention system for allergic children.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the prospective effect of dietary intake of total fat and fatty acids on menarcheal timing among girls, and to provide a theoretical basis for preventing the early puberty development of Chinese children.@*Methods@#Using the data from 1997-2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), 1 240 girls aged 6-13 with menarche information, baseline dietary survey data and at least one follow up assessment were selected. Cox regression analysis was performed to examine the prospective effect of dietary intake of total fat and fatty acids before menarche on age at menarche.@*Results@#The mean baseline age of the participants was (8.3±1.8). After adjustment for year of birth, residence, household income, dietary energy intake and body mass index Z score at baseline, girls in the highest quartile of intake of total fat and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) had a 30% and 34% higher probability of experiencing menarche at an earlier age than those in the lowest quartile [ HR(HR 95%CI )=1.30 (1.01~1.68),1.34(1.05~1.70)]. After adjusting for the confounders, there were no correlations between the intake of saturated fatty acid (SFA) and monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and the onset of menarche [ HR(HR 95%CI )=1.24(0.98~1.58),1.25(0.97~ 1.62 )]( P >0.05).@*Conclusion@#Higher dietary intake of total fat and PUFA before menarche may lead to earlier age at menarche and no correlation between intake of SFA and MUFA before menarche with age at menarche is found among Chinese girls.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To explore the efficacy of Jiaotai pill (JTW) and JTW modified prescriptions (JTW+) plus benzodiazepines (BDZ) for insomnia in China by systematic review and network meta-analysis, especially optimization ratio (m:n) between Coptis chinensis and Cinnamo. METHODS Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding JTW and JTW++BDZ for insomina were comprehensively searched in CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, and PubMed, Cochrane Library, OVID, Embase databases from their inception to December 2017. The risk of bias was assessed by the Cochrane collab?oration's tool and Jadad scale. Systematic review and network meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the relative risk (RR) plus 95%confidence interval (95%CI) or prediction interval (95%PrI), and draw surface under the cumulative rank?ing curves (SUCRA) by Stata 14.0 and RevMan 5.0 software. RESULTS A total of 13 RCTs (1 RCT was omitted by sen?sitivity analysis) with 1040 patients were included. Overall heterogeneity was acceptable, except publication bias. Based on classical meta-analysis, JTW and JTWm:n++BDZ, such as JTW2:1++BDZ, JTW5:1++BDZ, JTW6:1++BDZ, JTW10:1++BDZ, had more efficacy than BDZ. Based on network meta-analysis, JTW and JTWm:n++BDZ, such as JTW2:1++BDZ, JTW6:1++BDZ, JTW10:1++BDZ, had more efficacy than BDZ; meanwhile, SUCRA showed the best rank of JTW/JTW+ (BDZ<JTWm:n++BDZ<JTW) for insomina, as same as that of JTWm:n+(BDZ<JTW5:1++BDZ<JTW10:1++BDZ<JTW2:1++BDZ<JTW6:1++BDZ). CONCLUSION Based on the existing clinical evidence, JTW has efficacy for insomnia, but the optimization ratio between Coptis chinensis and cinnamo of JTWm:n++BDZ for insomnia needs more supports.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To examine the prevalence and associated factors of seeking casual male sexual partners among men who have sex with men (MSM) students in Guangzhou, and to provide a reference for health education and intervention.@*Methods@#A cross-sectional study was conducted to recruit 189 MSM students aged 18 and 28 via voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) clinics, Lingnan partners and Zhitong charity from May 2017 to April 2018. An anonymous electronic questionnaire was administrated to collect information on sociodemographic and sexual behavior characteristics. Chi-square test and non-conditional Logistic regression analysis were performed to explore the associated factors of casual homosexual behavior among MSM students.@*Results@#In the past 6 months, 63.49% (120/189) of them reported casual male partners, and the rate of consistent condom use was 61.67%(74/120). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that participants who had multiple sex partners in the past 6 months were more likely to seek male casual partners(aOR=9.13, 95%CI=4.27-19.53). Individuals who used recreational drugs before sex were at a higher risk of having casual sex behaviors(aOR=3.06, 95%CI=1.08-8.62). MSM students who had steady homosexual partners had a lower risk to seek casual sex(aOR=0.43, 95%CI=0.19-0.98).@*Conclusion@#The proportion of seeking casual male sexual partners among MSM students in Guangzhou was relatively high. The publicity and education should be strengthened among those who had multiple sex partners, with no steady homosexual partners and used recreational drugs before sex, to reduce the casual sex behaviors.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand prevalence and determinants of prior HIV testing among male students who have sex with men (MSM) in Guangzhou, and to provide a reference for improving their HIV set.@*Methods@#Students who were MSM were recruited in Guangzhou from May 2017 to April 2018. Data on socio-demographic characteristics, sexual behavior, AIDS prevention service access and HIV testing history were collected. Multivariate non-conditional logistic regression was conducted to explore determinants with HIV testing.@*Results@#The median age of 223 students who were MSM was 22 years old (interquartile: 20-23). About 65.47% (146/223) of them had a history of HIV testing. Multivariate non-conditional logistic regression showed individuals who sought sexual partners online (OR=3.24, 95%CI=1.32-7.98), had anal sex in the last 6 months (OR=2.73, 95%CI=1.26-5.93), and had received AIDS prevention services(OR=2.87, 95%CI=1.51-5.34) were more likely to have a history of HIV testing. @*Conclusion@#Prior HIV testing among student MSM in Guangzhou was relatively low. Intervention should be tailored targeting student MSM who seek sexual partners offline, have only oral sex in the past 6 months, and receive no AIDS prevention services in the past year to expand the coverage of HIV testing.

ABSTRACT

To the cataract patient after corneal refractive surgery, if the intraocular lens power was determined by conventional formulas, different refractive errors may be produced after intraocular lens implantation. This inaccuracy of the lens power mainly came from 2 aspects-errors of corneal refractive power measurement and errors of formulas.Besides, imprecise of ocular axial length measurement and invalid lens position calculation also contributed to the inaccuracy of lens power. Therefore, in order to reduce refractive errors of cataractous surgery in patient underwent refractive surgery, appropriate method should be used to estimate the refractive power of corneal, and proper formula should be selected to calculate intraocular lens power.

ABSTRACT

The incidence of diabetes has increased considerably, and become the third serious chronic disease following cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Though acarbose, metformin, and 1-deoxynojirimycin have good efficacy for clinical application as hypoglycemic drugs, their expensive costs and some degree of side effects have limited their clinical application. Recently, increasing attention has concentrated on the polysaccharides from natural plant and animal sources for diabetes. In order to illustrate the pharmaceutical activity of polysaccharides as natural hypoglycemic agents, polysaccharides isolated from Astragalus, oyster mushroom, and Yacon were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase. Polysaccharides were extracted and purified from Astragalus, Oyster mushroom, and Yacon with hot water at 90 °C for 3 h, respectively. The total sugar content of the polysaccharide was determined by the phenol-sulfuric acid method. The α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was measured by the glucose oxidase method. The results exhibited that the inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase were in decreasing order, Astragalus > oyster mushroom > Yacon. The α-glucosidase inhibition percentage of Astragalus polysaccharide and oyster mushroom polysaccharide were over 40% at the polysaccharide concentration of 0.4 mg·mL(-1). The IC50 of Astragalus polysaccharide and oyster mushroom polysaccharide were 0.28 and 0.424 mg·mL(-1), respectively. The information obtained from this work is beneficial for the use polysaccharides as a dietary supplement for health foods and therapeutics for diabetes.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the modulation of Glycyrrhiza inflata and Daphne genkwa on the permeability characteristics of rhodamine 123 (R123), one P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrate, across the jejunum membranes. And then approach the possible permeability mechanism of the drugs after co-administration of G. inflata and D. genkwa in gastrointestinal tract.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The permeability of R123 or fluorescein sodium (CF) via Wistar rat jejunum membranes was evaluated by in vitro diffusion chamber system after oral administration of four different decoctions and 0.9% sodium chloride (20 mL x kg(-1)) for 1 week. And the concentration of R123 or CF was determined by the fluorospectrophotometry. The apparent permeability coefficient (P(app)) was calculated by the equation P(app) = dQ/d(t) x (1/A x C0), where P(app) was expressed in cm/s, dQ/dT was the slope of the linear portion of the permeation curves, A was the diffusion area, and C0 was the initial concentration of rebamipide in the donor side, and then compare their differences were compared with control group.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>After oral administration of G. inflata decoction, D. genkwa decoction and decoction of the combination of the previous decoctions, the absorptive directed transport of R123 was significantly increased (P < 0.05, compared with control group). On the other hand, D. genkwa could also decrease the permeability of secretory directed transport (P(app) = 2.98 +/- 0.59), while no action of G. inflata was found on the secretory transport of R123 ( P(app) = 5.24 +/- 3.98) across the jejunum tissues, while P(app) of control group was 4.38 +/- 1.18. Meanwhile, G. inflata had no effect on transport of CF across the jejunum tissues, though the other three groups could decrease the permeability of CF, as compared with control group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>G. inflata may slightly inhibit P-glycoprotein function in the intestinal membrane, while D. genkwa may be a relatively strong inhibitor of P-gp. For another, some compositions in D. genkwa inhibit P-gp function, and some others strengthen the tight junction between cells in the intestinal membrane to decrease permeability of CF. As the inhibitory action to P-gp was enhanced by combination of G. inflata and D. genkwa, based on the results, it may be one of the mechanisms of creating toxicity once co-administration of G. inflata and D. genkwa.</p>
